Dunnellon Florida is known for The Rainbow River, Rainbow Springs, The KP Hole, The
Withlacoochee River and Lake Rousseau. The Rainbow River is feed by a first magnitude spring
that ranks fourth in the state for the volume of fresh water it discharges. As much as 400 to
600 million gallons of crystal clear water flow out of the springs every day.
Many springs feed the Rainbow River not just the Headsprings. As you drift down the Rainbow
River you can see the separate springs boiling up in many spots if look closely. The Rainbow
River is 5.7 miles long and meets at the confluence of the Rainbow and Withlacoochee Rivers
in Dunnellon at the city beach. These two rivers form Lake Rousseau. The headwaters of
Rainbow Springs are located at Rainbow Springs State
Park. Rainbow Springs State Park and the KP Hole are popular destinations for locals and
tourists alike. At Rainbow Springs you can tube, swim, snorkel, dive, fish, kayaking, canoeing,
picnic, or walk the paths to the one of the tallest waterfalls in Florida to enjoy
nature and the many species of plants and animals that live here.
